NHS Seniors have begun applying to colleges through Apply Texas during their English classes with the assistance of the Go Center Team.

The Go Center is an office at NHS that offers career, college and military guidance.

Ms. April Grady, the counselor in charge of the Go Center, said this endeavor would not be possible without the support and cooperation of the English teachers, who allow students to work on this during their instruction time.

“The teachers are instrumental in the process, in that they allow their class time for us to work with students,” Ms. Grady said. “Without their support this initiative would be difficult to complete.”

Go Center Coaches Mr. Keith Aivialositi and Ms. Rose Stanaland assist students with the process.

“This is a time saver for everyone, and it helps relieve the stress and intimidation of the application process,” Ms. Grady said. “Apply Texas is convenient, because it allows students to submit their application to more than one college.”

In addition to assisting students with their college applications, the Go Center has several other initiatives.

All Seniors currently enrolled in Government or Economics, all Juniors enrolled in World History, and any interested Sophomores will take the ASVAB (The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery), which is a career aptitude test that helps students identify and match their skills, interests and abilities for career exploration purposes.

Something to be continued this year will be a Financial Aid Day for students Oct. 2 and 3, and a Financial Aid Night from 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 29 for parents. During these events, information will be provided about how to apply for financial aid.

The school will also continue to offer the TSIA administration dates throughout the year for students entering college in 2020. The Go Center also helps students register for the ACT and SAT.

Late registration for the Oct. 5 administration of the SAT is Sept. 24. The registration deadline for the Nov. 2 administration is Oct. 3, with late registration deadline Oct. 22. The registration deadline for the Dec. 7 administration is Nov. 8, with late registration deadline Nov. 26.

The SAT is administered at NHS in the 600 Hall (also known as the Blue Hall).

The registration deadline for the Oct. 26 administration of the ACT is Sept. 20, with late registration Sept. 21-Oct. 4. Registration deadline for the Dec. 14 administration is Nov. 8, with late registration Nov. 9-22.

The ACT is administered at SFA in the Miller Science building.
