Tovar serving in military after NHS graduation

By Elena Osmanllari

The number of women serving in the military has steadily increased over time, according to statistics.

Servicewomen are opening new career paths for themselves and the generations to come as they enter jobs that were once closed to them. Dulce Tovar is one of the female NHS students who is going to join the military as soon as she graduates.

Dulce will be going to basic training on July 28 in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. She has already started preparing herself through her monthly drill preparations.

For one weekend every month, she goes to the Armory in Lufkin. On Saturday, the students sit in a class and learn things that they will be taught in basic training. After class, they perform exercises to get a feel for what it’s like. On Sunday they perform physical training exercises, such as running.

Dulce said that her career goal in the military is Forensic Computer Science.

“Computer science has always piqued my interest and when I learned that Forensic Computer Science was a career path, thanks to my amazing teacher, Ms. Dinbali, I decided that's what I wanted to do”, she said.

The way that the military protects and serves the country was what made Dulce want to enlist. Dulce is the first female in her family to be serving in the military and says that she feels honored to be the first.

For Dulce, it is an honor to serve in the military not only because it shows that she cares about her people, her state, and her entire country but it also gives her the chance to forward the service.

Many teachers and administrators at our school have said they feel very proud of Dulce for the career path she has chosen, for the love she shows for her country and for the service she is going to give the USA.

Some other NHS students have also enlisted, and they will be recognized by NHS in conjunction with commencement activities in May.
