We are living in a time that no one would ever have imagined would come. Everyone is staying inside their houses and giving up on their favorite activities outside. It is hard not to get bored at home in a time like this. Of course, schoolwork can keep you busy, you can spend some quality time with your family or finish all the TV shows you did not get the chance to watch while you were at school. But what do you think about a new hobby, something that won't only keep you busy and won't let you get bored but will also make you feel productive?
What about making your own jewelry? Most of us would have never thought that it is possible to make your own jewelry, let alone to do that from the comfort of our home.
Emily Patterson, a student at NHS, has already proved that not only is this possible but you can also end up having wonderful jewelry in your hands.
Emily started making jewelry about 6 months ago when she was looking for a way to express her creativity. Now she can make jewelry from pretty much everything from resin and dried flowers to vintage jewelry she takes apart so that she can reuse it for her creations.
Emily says that you can easily find supplies at Hobby Lobby, thrift stores or online which is the best option during this time.
“Most of my jewelry either has a vintage or fun feeling, some is unconventional but I love the thought of repurposing old things, and making them new and beautiful,” Emily said.
Making jewelry is not the only passion Emily has.
“I enjoy sculpting, watercolor, and sketching as well as doodling,” she said. Emily is also the president of the Art Club at NHS which gave her the chance to express her talent in TAEA VASE with her poly clay sculpture "Radioactive Reclamation." The mission of the TAEA Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) is to recognize exemplary student achievement in the Visual Arts by providing art students and programs a standard of excellence in which to achieve, and Emily certainly is a very talented student.
Nowadays you can even profit from your hobbies and that is exactly what Emily is doing. So far she has only been vending at different local events, but now she also has an Instagram account and will soon be selling her wares on the account @trinketsbygrace.
