On Saturday, Jan. 25 Braxton Roberts was appointed as the 2020-2021 Region 10 Lt. Governor for the Texas-Oklahoma Division of Key Club.
“This is a huge honor for Braxton and our school,” said Key Club Sponsor Rebecca Jaramillo.
As lieutenant governor, Braxton said he will make sure clubs at schools throughout the region are functioning well.
“I can guide them and help them with any problems they’re having,” he said.
Braxton said his mission, along with Ms. Jaramillo’s was to make Key Club stronger than ever.
“We’ve been on a mission to bring it back,” he said.
Key Club is one of the most active groups on campus. Some of the activities include stadium clean-ups, serving as time-keepers for the swim team, assisting at the Alzheimer’s Walk, and volunteering for other things that benefit the community.
“My favorite thing we do is volunteer at Harvest House,” Braxton said. “We check the inventory and box up and bag food that’s delivered to the elementary and middle schools. We do any heavy lifting that they need done.”
Braxton said this work is meaningful to him, because he knows that the food they organize is sent home with school children who might not have food to eat over the weekend, otherwise.
“Key Club makes you feel like you’re changing the world,” he said. “And it’s a place where everyone is included.”
Braxton is currently serving as president of Key Club, having previously served as reporter. When Ms. Jaramillo suggested nominating him for Key Club lieutenant governor, she told him it would be a lot of work. He knew he was up for the task.
Braxton hopes to attend Texas A&M someday, and eventually attend law school.
He said the experience he’s gaining in Key Club will help him with his goals for the future.
