Kindness a key theme of Key Club Week

Nov. 4-8 is Key Club week, and Key Club members at NHS have been busy the past several days showing exactly what their organization is all about.

“Each day had a different theme,” Key Club sponsor Rebecca Jaramillo explained.

“Show Your K” was the day that all members wore their club t-shirts and spread the word throughout the school about their organization and the ways they try to make NHS better.

“Kudos to Key Players” was a day that Key Club members wrote thank you notes to their teachers, administrators, friends and family members who make a difference in their lives.

On “Dare to Care” day Key Club members found out about a unique opportunity that they may be able to help with in the future: using old t-shirts to make jump ropes for children in impoverished countries.

On “Random Acts of Kindness” day students did kind things for others all day.

Mrs. Jaramillo said Chris Lymbery brought a student teacher flowers, because he knew she was stressed out over school. Other students who did acts of kindness were Chris Benitez, Abraham Reyes Gonzales, Christina Whitaker, Rasheyla Frazier (holding the door for someone) and Holly Jaramillo, who wrote a sweet note for her coach.

On “Connecting the K’s” day two seniors joined the local Kiwanis Club for lunch.

Key Club member Adam Ballenger said he enjoyed the week’s activities.

“What I enjoyed about lunch with the Kiwanis Club was learning about SFA’s future athletic projects from SFA’s new athletic director,” he said.

Adam has participated in Key Club for three years, and his favorite part of being in it is being involved in the community, learning more about the community and developing leadership skills.

“Key Club benefits NHS through service projects and giving back to others,” he said.
