Elena Garcia was 3 years old when she first became interested in drawing, and her favorite thing to draw has always been dogs. She has had her work published in a children’s book, in the Mike Moses yearbook, and she has won prestigious art contests.
“I find it easy to put things on paper,” she said. “I don’t really have to think about it. I just visualize it and put it down.”
As a little girl, Elena would sneak into her closet and turn the light on so she could stay up late to draw. She also sculpts, and she uses polymer clay for her sculptures, which she then paints. As with her drawings, dogs are her favorite subjects to sculpt.
Elena has two dogs of her own at home, who have been the inspiration for many of her drawings. One of the dogs is a Chi-weenie, and the other is a bichon fries. Their names are Cocoa and Roxie.
Elena is also a percussionist in the NHS Golden Dragon Band, and Algebra 2 is her favorite subject. In her spare time, besides creating art she also enjoys video games.
